Electronics help and reference cards

Picture
Here is a selection of electronics reference cards that I've made over the years to help aid my ever failing memory. Hopefully they will be of use to others.

Quick tip for removing Molex/JYK pins from tape reel (14-May-2012)

Picture
The terminal crimp pins are supplied on long metal tape reels and can be a bit tricky to remove. Here's a simple way of doing this.

Sources for parts, tools and equipment in the UK (26-Jan-2012)

Picture
I've listed some companies that sell parts, tools and equipment suitable for hobby electronics. There are of course many such companies and it's impossible to list them all, but if you send me details of any you use I'll add them to the list.

New multi-part series on programing and interfacing PICs (21-Jan-2012)

Picture
Using the FREE, AMICUS18 PIC BASIC compiler from Crownhill Associates, this multi-part series will cover how to write BASIC programs from scratch, and how to interface PICs to different types of hardware.

This series of articles is based around the PIC 18F25K22 device.

Logic Level Threshold Voltages (7-Jan-2012)

Picture
Shows the minimum and maximum threshold voltages for the different logic families.

Logic Level Voltage Shifting (7-Jan-2012)

Picture
It’s not difficult these days to end up with a design where several of the major components all have different operating voltage requirements. A typical example may be a PIC running at 5v for performance reasons, most LCD modules also need 5v, but Microchip’s new Serial SRAMs require 3.6v and here’s the problem...

Wire Gauges (14-Nov-2011)

Picture
This PDF file contains a list of the wire gauge sizes, and other technical data including maximum current carrying capabilities.
These are all approximate values and should be taken as rules of thumb, rather than actual values so use with caution.

Surface Mount Design & Land Pattern Standards (24-Oct-2011)

This document contains all you ever wanted to know about surface mount pin and pad specifications, but were too scared to ask.

Microchip part foot-print families (6-Oct-2011)

Picture
Did you know, that Microchip currently have 21 different package families for their products?
Do you know the difference between the TSSOP and TSOP package families?

This PDF document shows all their current packages and specifications, great if you arn't sure which package type to order or designing footprints for your PCB CAD package.

Some hints on buying electronic parts (4-July-2011)

Picture
Electronics is great fun and the projects you are going to undertake irrespective of their complexity will require parts... and this means shopping !!

Texas Instruments Op-Amp design guide (22-Apr-2011)

Picture
Click to go to the TI website and download
This PDF deals with op amp circuits — not with the innards of op amps but the calculations from the circuit level, and it doesn’t get bogged down in a myriad of detailed calculations. The reader can start at the level appropriate for them, and quickly move on to the advanced topics.
