The people are really friendly; the weathers brilliant with very cool electrical storms at night during the rainy season, the food and alcohol are plentiful (for tourists), and their electrical safety is… innovative.
However, one thing they do have that I’ve never seen before and is such a simple idea I’m surprised the rest of the world doesn’t have it (and maybe it does and I’ve just never seen it), are countdown timer displays on the traffic lights. As you sit at a set of traffic lights on red, there is a two digit display (in red) counting down the number of seconds you have to wait. Then, when the lights turn green the display flips to green and counts down how long the lights will remain green for you. It’s so simple, it’s brilliant.
If nothing else, temporary traffic signals should have the facility built in, just so you know the stupid things are working. I’ve sat at a set for a very long time before realising that they were stuck.
Has anybody else seen these traffic lights?
